According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, augmented reality is an enhanced version of reality created by the use of technology to overlay digital information on an image of something being viewed through a device (such as a smartphone camera). In the future the device used could be a pair of glasses or even a microchip embedded in your brain and you could augment reality while doing the most mundane of tasks, for example, eating breakfast.
An advantage of such a system would be that nutritional information could be more evident. Instead of having a boring table with all the components, you could have a health-o-meter that could tell you immediately if what you were eating was healthy for you or not and then give the exact breakdown if you asked for it. Such a pair of glasses could be integrated with your personal information like allergies, medication and alert you if you were about to eat something potentially dangerous. For those of us who follow strict diets, it could automatically track our calories etc. and let us know if we are on track.
